  • Series: Famous Rockers Who Converted to Christianity
Continuing the series "Famous rockers who converted to Christianity". Today I present this great figure, the (vocalist/guitarist/leader) of the great band
    "WASP".
Blackie Lawless: The WASP leader left the church at age 18, the son of a Baptist pastor [1]but returned later. Since then, he has adamantly refused to play his band's first single, the controversial "Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)", due to its explicit lyrics.
Once in an interview, Blackie was asked:
On not playing "Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)" live anymore:
Blackie: "We haven't played that song for several years. And it's totally because of my religious faith, and it's something I don't want to do anymore, and I'll never play that song again.
What can I do to be a positive influence? I look at what I'm doing and I'm trying to create the best example I can. I don't want 13 year olds walking around singing this song. If it's something they want to do later in their lives, that's their business. But, as I said, it's a matter of faith and the religious conviction that I have."

"Somebody asked me that the other day. They said, 'Are you a rock and roll preacher now?' I said, 'No. But I am a messenger.' And that's my job. So everything I've done up to this point has led me to where I am now." [two]
In one of Blackie Lawless' recent statements, he stated that:
"[...] who profess their faith in Jesus Christ and what is written in the Bible and nothing else.
"They say the bible was a book written by men. It may be true, but there are 66 books written by 40 different authors over a period of 200 years on three different continents, and most authors did not know each other, but one ends the sentence of the other. It is impossible that any man could have written this without divine inspiration". [3]
With the conversion of BL, the themes of WASP's lyrics changed. The album "Babylon" addresses the theme of the biblical book of Revelation. And on the latest album "Golgotha", the themes that approach Christianity in a positive way continue.
